An individual with a sunny window and a ledge can easily grow herbs indoors. The majority of herbs are actually easy to grow, mostly because herbs are smart weeds. Most are tough and fairly invasive if left to their own devises, but they’ve discovered ways to be useful to people. Herbs are used to flavor food and are tend to be used medicinally.
Herbs is usually grown like any other houseplants. Most are quickest to start from seed in a growing method like vermiculite, and next, transplanted into rich potting soil. This weekend marks the 25th Annual Herb and Garden Faire at the Landis Valley Museum near Lancaster, PA. After a week filled with rain and clouds it looks like we will have perfect weather to enjoy the faire and spend time outside in the garden.
Here in the Zone 6 region of Pennsylvania, the middle of May and Mother’s Day are both recognized as a safe time to start planting out frost tender plants into the garden beds. T

LOS ANGELES — The mother of a mentally ill homeless man who died after he was beaten by Fullerton police has reached a settlement with the city that will pay her $1 million, officials announced Tuesday evening.
The agreement unanimously approved by the Fullerton City Council resolves Cathy Thomas’ legal claims against the city involving the death of Kelly Thomas, 37. He died July 10, five days after his violent confrontation with Fullerton Police Department officers.
Thomas reached the settlement after voluntary mediation with her attorney, city officials said.

In some ways the world has changed a great deal since the Seventies, and yet reading a transcript of a speech given by industrial designer Dieter Rams in 1976 (see below) and reissued to mark the designer’s 80th birthday this month, what’s immediately clear is that the principals of good design have remained the same.
Rams was speaking in New York City. At the time, he was designing some of his most enduring products, including the 606 Universal Shelving System (pictued above).
