Advice for the All-American Designer from Kimber Britner

The All-American Designer Has Moxie

In this day and age women have unlimited choices. Yet often conceive an idea and quickly move to discover how it can be pulled off before answering the more important question, “Why do I want this and will it be a good fit when I get it?”

Just like selecting color values and patterns that make a room relevant for a long time, building a business and life that continue to be inviting, rather than quickly tiresome, means determining ones core values from the start.

If you build a business that is stuffy and formal, while you yourself enjoy casual family-like relationships, you will quickly tire of what you have built. You might show up everyday in pearls and a suit, while truly longing to host clients in a sundress at an outdoor, Tuscan-style luncheon.

However, if you happen to do the work to determine your own core values, your choices will be a good fit and fulfilling in the long run. Doing the intentional work to design your life is the ultimate design project.

The All American Designer has unlimited choices and the freedom to exercise them. So before running off with your next great design concept, first determine if what you are designing in your life and business is truly suited to who you are and not simply a reproduction of someone else’s style. Embrace the moxie to design a life and business that is authentically you.
