Today our guest blogger is my great friend, designer, and fabulous blogger, Traci Zeller. Traci helps us add some spark to our design with a little red, white and blue inspiration.

Betsy Ross may be getting the short end of the history stick. For one thing, did you know that she was a successful upholsterer? Whether or not you believe she sewed the first American flag, I’d like to think her savvy design sense had a little something to do with the red, white and blue! Red, white and blue is one of my (and Betsy’s) favorite combinations in décor – yet it doesn’t have to look like you are about to set off the fireworks. In fact, you may find that splashes of red, white and blue – used individually or together – provide just the spark (pun intended!) that your room needs.

So, in honor of the Fourth of July, I’ve put together a few of my favorite red, white and blue accent pieces that would look great in just about any room. The white vellum nesting tables and the ostrich-embossed leather mirror are from Made Goods. Aren’t they amazing? An American girl can never have too many pillows (or is that shoes?), so I chose these two from Jonathan Adler and No. Four Eleven. The combo of the monogrammed blue linen and the graphic red needlepoint is so chic! I cheated a teensy bit by including some green, but I am in love with this painting by Jane Booth – and, of course, it complements my other choices. (A huge thanks to Tobi for introducing me to Jane’s work. I am officially obsessed.) Mottega’s custom lamps are available in eleven gorgeous colors, but the depth of the azure makes this lamp especially beautiful. The red stacking boxes are available through Plantation, and the tote bag made from Quadrille’s iconic Zig Zag fabric is from Furbish.

Forget the flag bunting; this has me feeling patriotic … and in the mood to add a few new pieces to my living room!
